A period of dangerous heat is expected in Glenview and across Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana Thursday afternoon, July 18, and persist Friday, July 19, and into the start of the weekend. There will be little relief from the heat overnight Thursday and Friday. Expect temperatures of between 92 and 98 with heat indices topping out in the 102-109 range.
The Village of Glenview urges you to observe heat safety techniques to protect you and your loved ones from this extreme weather. Remember to drink plenty of water, wear light clothing and sunscreen, check on the elderly and never leave children or pets outside or in hot cars.
If you lose power or don't have access to air conditioning, visit Glenview Village Hall, 2500 East Lake Avenue, at any hour. Pets are welcome but most be crated. Also available are the Glenview Public Library, 1930 Glenview Road and Glenview Park Center, 2400 Chestnut Avenue, during their business hours, or go to a Cook County cooling center.
If you find yourself needing emergency assistance, don't hesitate to call 911.
